My acquaintance with Battlefield 4 took place relatively recently, literally last summer. And from that very moment, multiplayer absorbed me for dozens of hours and showed me what real Battlefield is and why it is so loved. Closing my eyes after the next stage of a large-scale war, only hit markers stood before my eyes. After that, the ardor had to be reduced somewhat, limiting itself to a couple of hours of play in my free time. But during this time you just received a wagonload of emotions and positive mood. How good it is that people continue to play it, giving the opportunity to get to know it for someone like me who didn’t catch it at the time of release. Which may be good, since at the time of release many called it completely unplayable. Now this is the best existing Battlefield, but this can only be said about the multiplayer, since the campaign, to put it mildly, is ambiguous. It seems to me that it was a little wrong to get acquainted with it after 90 hours of multiplayer, since it immediately catches your eye how mechanics that are ideally polished in online battles simply do not work or work poorly in the plot part. So, I like all these military singles, but this just raises a bunch of questions, which we will discuss now, and in the end we will talk about the advantages of the Battlefield 4 story campaign.

I don’t see any point in nitpicking about the plot, whether in the magic or in the battle, since everything there is standard nonsense, another third world war between America, Russia and China, everything according to the precepts of Tom Clancy. But an integral part of it are the characters, who must evoke some feelings. And they cause a feeling of hatred towards them. Why do we have to spend most of the game running around with the Irishman, who is simply infuriating with his constant whining, stupid antics, complete lack of subordination, discipline and generally any traits of a special forces officer?. How he got into the ranks of the gravedigger remains a big mystery, because watching him, the image of a typical anime protagonist emerges, that is, a screaming impulsive teenager, and here we have a serious war. That is why, when the opportunity presented itself to get rid of him, I did it with great pleasure, without waiting for the end of the dialogue.

Or Dmitry, who, in my opinion, is generally the best character in this game. Now, choosing between him and Pak, I would hesitate, but here everything is successfully merged and does not evoke any emotions. Plus, all these individuals are not burdened with artificial intelligence at all. I’ll say more, this is the dumbest AI I’ve ever seen, because it’s simply useless. If in a sorcery the partners are even capable of killing someone, then forget it here. The game presents us with mechanics for interacting with them that simply don’t work. When you press the button, party members must open fire on the marked targets and even if not kill, but at least shoot for suppression, so that the player deftly outflanks the opponents and eliminates them. But they are stupid and therefore can stand in an open place a meter from the enemy, turning their backs to him. Here I just threw up my hands and couldn’t find words to describe such a situation.

I said that the characters do not evoke any emotions, but you know what causes them, bugs. It would seem that a game from 2013 should work properly by the 22nd, but no, it is simply overflowing with disappearing textures, falling objects, inconsistency between sounds and what is happening around. My favorite is the mission when the squad sneaks onto the ship through its flooded decks, I haven’t felt such pain in a long time. The character runs into something unclear and simply refuses to swim forward. You look at your surroundings, but you don’t see what he might be clinging to. When trying to continue moving, the movement occurs by a millimeter per minute and one gets the feeling that the brave warrior was caught on something by his cowards, because I simply could not find any other reasons. With all this, over tens of hours of multiplayer, no such problems were encountered, although it would seem that it is much more difficult to polish everything there. And on the release, as I heard, all this was present, only they fixed it there, but not in the single.

I would also like to mention missions in which the battle mechanics do not work as they should. This is especially noticeable in the mission where we control a tank. The location in which we operate is limited and does not allow us to successfully maneuver, which we would like if the developers spawn enemy vehicles right in front of our faces. And this is very critical when you drive around one tank, and another one spawns nearby and starts shooting at you from both sides. And this is not due to your inattention, since you can look through the heater, but simply did not enter its activation zone, after that you just wanted to spit from this campaign.

But there was also something that actually pleased. Despite all attempts, the developers failed to spoil the main thing, the feeling of shooting. Both in multiplayer and in single player, the guns are pleasant to shoot, the sensations, the impact are at the highest level, even in comparison with MW 2019, in which gunfight, at least for me, is the best among arcade shooters. The way the weapon sounds is just a song and you can really understand what is being fired from. The only disappointing thing about this is that the guns have pre-installed modules and cannot be changed during playthrough, so some guns are a little unplayable.

In addition to the weapons, which not only feel, but also look simply excellent, the equipment also evokes the same emotions. Usually I don’t think about this, but in Battlefield 4 at some point I caught myself thinking that in the cutscenes I was not watching the events taking place, but looking at the soldiers’ uniforms, everything was so meticulously done that you couldn’t take your eyes off. And you sit and notice all these details, who is wearing what helmet, what headphones, backpacks and you understand that you are watching a kind of military porn, everything is so coolly designed in this regard.

And now I would like to smash the game to smithereens, which is what it deserves, but for the multiplayer it can be forgiven for this single-player appendage, which is not worth attention at all. Anyway, I didn’t think that after the multiplayer of MW 2019 I would be able to play single-player military shooters, but it’s still worth a try, because the last single-player game for me was Modern Warfare 3, so maybe it’s worth catching up.
